Fri, Oct 2, 6-9pm: “Around the World in 21 Visual Poets,” a show of international prints presented by Jennifer Hill and Dan Waber of Paper Kite Press. Also, at 8pm, author Kaylie Jones (Lies My Mother Never Told Me) will be reading and signing books with author Barbara Taylor.

Author Signings
Fri, Oct 2, 8pm: Reading/signing with Kaylie Jones and Barbara J Taylor. Jones’ 2009 memoir, Lies My Mother Never Told Me, has been reviewed favorably in the NYT Book Review, the Washington Post, and much more. Jones is the daughter of literary giant James Jones (From Here to Eternity, The Thin Red Line), and the book and the memoir is a must-read for those interested in modern literature as well as those who have survived alcoholism in the family. Barbara Taylor is currently at work on a historical novel about the Providence area of Scranton, and she has studied with Jones.
Thurs, Oct 8, 7pm, at the Scranton Cultural Center: The Lackawanna County Library System has brought in speaker Charlie Wilson. Charlie Wilson is a former 12-term Democratic US Representative from Texas. He led Congress into Operation Cyclone, the largest-ever CIA covert operation, which supplied Afghan MUjahideen during the Soviet War in Afghanistan. His behind-the-scenes campaign was the subject of the 2003 non-fiction book Charlie Wilson’s War, written by George Crile, and also of the film adaptation starring Tom Hanks. Tickets are FREE when you present your library card. Anthology Books will be on hand to sell books.
Thurs, Oct 22, 5-7pm: Author Charlie Blewitt will be here reading and signing copies of his newest book, Valley Views II. BleWitt, a Pittston native, writes plays involVing the NEPA area and its people. Several of his plays have been staged locally.
Thurs, Oct 29, 7pm: Author Tim O’Brien will be speaking at Marywood University’s Sette La Verghette Theater on his book, The Things They Carried, a series of fictional short stories about the Viet Nam War. O’Brien comes to us as part of the fantastic Scranton Reads program. Tickets are free with your library card. Anthology has discounted copies of his book and tickets for this event.

Poetry Fri, Oct 23, 7:30pm: Dead Poets open mic night. Normally on the last Friday of the month at 7:30, we’re moving up a week this month due to Halloween over-scheduling. Come dressed as your favorite dead poet and automatically get entered to win an Anthology gift certificate. You may read your own work as well as your dead poet’s work. This is an uncensored reading of organic, non-genetically modified, homegrown, heirloom poetry! All are welcome, but please expect some adult language and content. This month, in honor of Halloween, come dressed as your favorite DEAD POET!
